History of the Palmer Lake Art Group

The Palmer Lake Art Group is the longest continual running art group of its kind in El Paso County, Colorado. Its history begins early 1964 with artists already working and living in Palmer Lake, and the area. Artists and creatives have continues to be attracted to Palmer Lake and northern El Paso County.

With the advent of the Chautauqua Assembly in 1886, the first in Colorado, Palmer Lake was filled every summer until about 1910, with people coming to Palmer Lake for the enrichment of the humanities that the Chautauqua offered.

An Art Scholarship Program was established in 1977 and continues today. Each year graduating high school seniors in the local school district who plan for careers in the visuals arts apply for the Art Scholarships.
