DESCRIBE YOUR PLANS FOR AN VISUAL ARTS-RELATED CAREER: Commitment to a career in the visual arts is a requirement for award monies to be disbursed. Art courses in semester schedule will meet this final requirement. We understand career plans change after high school graduation, which may change your qualification for the award. The student schedule reflecting a visual arts class is the final requirement for award monies to be disbursed. After the award is disbursed to your institution, all requirements are complete for PLAG. The award is available through May of the following year. NextABOUT the Art Scholarship In 1977, the Palmer Lake Art Group [PLAG] began the Art Scholarship specifically to encourage and support student artists who choose the visual arts as a career path after graduation from local School District 38. This art scholarship is more than an award for doing very well in visual arts. It is to support those with a visual arts career path. The members of PLAG work to build funds for this scholarship with shows and scholarship donations. Since 1977, PLAG has awarded over $85,000 in awards to local, graduating, young artists. ABOUT the Palmer Lake Art Group, established 1967 for more - PalmerLakeArtGroup.com A group of artist residents of Palmer Lake organized the Palmer Lake Art Group in 1967. The group supports each other as artists, sponsors many local art events, and annual art shows. The non-profit is open to all interested in participating with us and includes many fine artists of all levels of experience. Palmer Lake Art Group meets 2nd Sat morning monthly for business and art workshops. Each year they sponsor 3 art shows, including Color Splash Art Show in June which features the Art Scholarship Award Winners and their work. All opening receptions are free and open to the public. Prepare for Jury, held 3rd week in April. Prepare and upload a powerpoint of photographs which fill most of the page, and include: A) Title Page: Your name and any statements you'd like to make to the jury about your art; B) The cover and pages of your sketchbook, ordered from beginning to end. C) Individual images of your art for the jurors. For each piece, include title and medium. Accompanying comments or artist statements about each piece are welcome, but not necessary. note: The photographs represent your body work to the jury. The art should be well lit, and the colors should represent the art as accurately as possible. The digital files should be large enough for the jury to enlarge, and include close-up images to see textures and fine lines of the art. If you receive a scholarship award: ALL events will be modified according to current health standards Prepare selected art pieces for display in June art show. Attend the Senior Awards Night. Attend the Opening Reception [date TBD] in your honor at the June Art Show at Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts in Palmer Lake. Access scholarship funds by submitting a copy of student schedule with a visual arts class, financial office address, and your official student ID number. AWARD Components as allowed by current health status Part 1 The Art Show: The award winners will display their work along with professional artists in annual scholarship show, Color Splash Art Show, in the gallery at Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts date TBD. The award winning student artists will be featured and introduced to the regional artist community at the opening reception. Free and open to the public. Each award winner will frame, mat and prepare up to 3 pieces for display in the annual juried art show 'Color Splash Art Show'. Arrangements to prepare the art should be made immediately, and arranged with artist member Irmi Knoth at Heritage Studios in Monument who help you learn how to display your art in a professional gallery. Art Scholarship winners are featured at the Opening Reception 6-8, date TBD. At 5:30 is a private opening with the show judge, who will visit with the student artist; and Scholarship Sponsors. At 6:30, the student artists and their work will be introduced to the artist community. Invite family and friends to this honor. Part 2 Senior Awards Night: Palmer Lake Art Group Art Scholarship Awards will be presented to the Art Scholarship winners in May at Senior Awards Night, before graduation. Part 3 Final confirmation of visual art career path: A copy of the student schedule which includes the student ID and a class schedule which includes a visual art class--before June 1 at end of college freshman year. Part 4 Access Award monies: Return the following information to PLAG for monies to be released to your student account.
